You may remember a while back I mentioned we were building a barn. Well, we got to the point of our busy season with the fairs and we put the barn on hold - again.
However, as the old saying goes: Good things come to those who wait. After Jeremiah had made some calls to get quotes for barn kits as well as pricing out buying the materials himself, he received a phone call from the truss company he had called. The guy told him if he hadn't built his barn yet he had trusses in the size he had quoted him before that another customer ordered but now couldn't pay for. If Jeremiah wanted them he would put together the kit for him - and the price was around $1,000 less than what the guy had originally quoted him! What a blessing!

As if that wasn't enough a few weeks later the guy from the truss company called back and said the company that was cutting the metal for the roof cut the wrong gauge metal. It was a thinner gauge than we were planning on, but the guy told Jeremiah they would knock another $900 off the price if we wanted the thinner gauge metal. Why, yes, we want it! For another $900 savings who can beat that? So, so far we've saved almost $2,000 on the total price of the barn - and we've hardly gotten started!
Jeremiah went to the home improvement store a couple of weekends ago and purchased the few materials that he still needed that were not included in the barn kit. While he was there they were throwing scrap wood out the door into a discard pile. They were just throwing it away! Jeremiah was able to salvage this pile of wood from them - all for free!
And (drumroll, please......)Last Tuesday they delivered all the materials! Yippee!
Jeremiah worked a little bit every evening last week on little things to get ready to start raising the barn. Most nights Nate came and helped, too. Friday night Jeremiah and Nate got the four corner posts set and braced. And Saturday Jeremiah and his dad got the other 8 posts set. Then on Sunday Jeremiah and Nate got most of the beams up. This is what the weekend's progress looks like so far:
Whew! There's still so much to be done! But - at least we're off to a good start!

That is so cool and I loved the free wood. I know he'll put it to good use. Tell him thanks for keeping it out of the landfill :)

Wow - so cool. Isn't is great to save money and save the earth at the same time! I'll check on your progress (in person) this summer! Looks great so far.
