Loss of a friend

Saturday we lost a very special friend and member of our family - our dog, Cry Baby.
Cry Baby has been with us since Dakota was only 18 months old. We got her as a puppy
and she and Dakota grew up together. She was 14 years old and until now she'd outlasted numerous other dogs that have come and gone from our family over the years. She was a tough 'ole broad. We often joked that she must have 9 lives like a cat because of some of the things that happened to her over the years and she kept on kicking.

She's been sick and ailing for several years now - struggling with weight loss and then
bouncing back; she had some tumors, too. She had lost her hearing and her sight was beginning to go as well. She was having trouble with her hips and some arthritis and there were days we wondered if she was suffering - but every time we thought it was time to put her down, she'd go chasing a bird or a squirrel across the yard and we just couldn't do it. We would decide to let nature run its course because we just couldn't bring ourselves to go there.

Saturday afternoon, however, there was an accident in our yard that took her life and put her to rest. It was unexpected, as accidents are, but I know that she is no longer hurting or suffering(if she was).

She is definitely missed and we will remember her in our hearts with fond memories. She will always be a part of our family.
